The Vox Machina dice bag

This project started a year ago, when a lovely girl saw the dice bags of the Mighty Nein collection I was making and sent me a message asking if I could do something similar but for Vox Machina. And I was pretty happy to do it! I asked which character she wanted for the bag and she said: “The whole group!”

I was stunned. I’d never done something that complex, but I was also thrilled to try!

So we started emailing back and forth about the idea. About what she wanted to be on the bag, which drawings, which quotes, since there is so much material to choose from! What I could and couldn’t do, and all the details about this project. I certainly realized the bag but it was born from both our minds, and I really loved this shared designing process.

So this bag was commissioned, and to this day it has been one of the toughest projects I've done, and I'm very proud of how it came out!

In the end, she and I came up with a pretty detailed concept, after a loooong brainstorming phase.

Vox Machina has 8 party members and we had 22 triangles to fill (22 faces for the d20 bag). We decided to give each “face” of the bag a “frame” to identify the different characters and give the bag a rainbow theme all around. So it would be too crowded and chaotic. Or better yet a control chaos was the vibe we wanted, just like Vox Machina.

So I engraved a frame in the leather on each triangle. Then all the frames were painted in the chosen color to define each character.

Each member of the party plus the DM got 2 triangles: One for a quote & One for a drawing that represented them).

So we had 4 triangles left free, we had as many subjects we could add and far too little space left, so in the end two triangles were assigned to the BBEGs of the campaign, the Chroma Conclave and Vecna, and the last two were her special choices. For these ones she chose one for an NPC, Shaun Gilmore of course, and one for a special quote that was dear to her and represented the campaign as a whole.

The chosen colors were:

- Indigo for the DM

- Light blue for Vex’halia

- Black for Vax’ildan

- Dark blue for Percy

- Green for Keyleth

- Red for Grog

- Light yellow for Pike

- Purple for Scanlan

- Gold for Taryon Darrington

- Orange for Vecna and the Chroma Conclave

- Pink for Gilmore and the special quote

To complete the rainbow theme, the bag was stitched using all these colors, intertwining from the respective frames. For the background color of the bag she chose dark grey to balance out all the colors and subjects! We briefly discussed a possible tan brown for the background but she liked the grey better

(I was personally partial to both hehe).

And so here it is, the Vox Machina dice bag in all her glory!
